Happy Sunday. I’ve had a fruitful and eventful couple of days gigging and engaging with my art, and it's been a very encouraging couple of weeks as a musician indeed. Over the last few weeks I've had some fulfilling performances and some lovely, uplifting encounters, from in person conversations at gigs to messages I've received via email and social media.

Case in point, last week I wrote about how art can serve as messages in a bottle. I shared the story behind a song I wrote for my wedding vows, and how, after playing it at a gig a few weeks ago and telling the story of how it came about, it led to a conversation with a couple in the audience who asked if I could play the song at their wedding ceremony. Well, I played at their wedding yesterday, and it was a beautiful day. It was great to meet their friends and family and be surrounded by so much love and affection in the room.

Given the events that have transpired over the last few weeks, I consider it fitting to share the wedding vow song as the song spotlight this week. Unlike the last few song spotlights which have come from my new album, Hope on the Horizon, this is an unreleased song, and it is very, very special to me, for obvious reasons.

As always, I'm sharing the lyrics here in line with the philosophy (and safe in the knowledge) that my song lyrics can stand alone as poetry. I'd love to know what you think of the lyrics below. Who knows, this song might just make it onto a future album. With all that said, I give you, First Day of Spring.

For so long, the fields were barren
Then the flowers came in bloom
For so long, the skies were cloudy
Then they turned clear and blue

Now the trees are brimming
With leaves so lush and green
And birds perched on branches singing
Of the promises of spring

The cold, dark nights, they stung like arrows
Then the dawn brought the light
And with it, the chorus of the sparrows
Marked the end of night

And now the sun is shining
The morning dew coats the grass
And the tips of the blades, they stand glistening
With signs of life at last

A life so warm
A life so bright
A life that makes me wanna sing

It was a bleak and lonely winter, my life
But now, I’ve got reasons to sing
Cause the day, that blessed day that I met you, my love
Marked my first day of spring

And it brought me
A life so warm
A life so bright
A life that makes me wanna sing

My new album, Hope on the Horizon, is out everywhere now. Not a fan of streaming and want to support my music? You can download a digital version or buy a CD now here. Thank you for listening, spreading the word, and reaching out to share your thoughts. I appreciate it. Have a great week.
