I was out playing live music a few days ago and seized the opportunity to try out a new song I wrote last month. The song – One More Day – tells a little story of love and loss, and it got a positive response from the host and the audience. I figured I’d share it as a blog post this week as I tend to do from time to time, in keeping with the idea that the best songs are those whose lyrics can stand alone as poetry. I hope you get to hear the song live (if you’re able to make it out to one of my gigs) or enjoy a studio version wherever you are in the world sometime in the future. Until then, do let me know what you take away from it. I'll return with an essay, song or short story next week.
I hope I hope you see the sunrise At the dawn of a new day Just one more time I hope I hope you see the moonlight In all its lunar glory Just one more night But I know time isn't promised You blink twice and it’s gone But for you, I can’t help but long For just a little bit more I hope I hope you get to wake To life’s simple pleasures Just one more day I wish I wish we had more time To do nothing together Just one more day What I’d give to quell this yearning What I’d trade to see you live again But alas, I’m left with a longing For something to end the pain So I hope I hope you see the sunrise And I hope you see the night sky Just one more day
P.S.: My debut non-fiction book, Art Is The Way, and my middle-grade novella, A Hollade Christmas, are out everywhere now. You can get them in all good bookstores and from all major online vendors.
