Happy Sunday. A few weeks ago I mused about the glorious Spring weather we’d been enjoying in my neck of the woods. Turns out I spoke too soon. As I write this it’s grey and overcast and the clouds are pregnant with rain, which begs the question, where did the sun go?
I don’t know about you, but I find myself asking this question from time to time, and more often than not, I’m not wondering about the whereabouts of the big ball of fire in the sky. Sometimes, these thoughts make it into songform, as is the case with today's song spotlight, called A Better Day. I wrote this a few years ago when I found myself wondering why we hadn’t had proper Spring weather even though Meteorological Spring was nearly over, and as I was writing it, I realised that I wasn’t just writing about the weather.
Just like the last song spotlight, this song will also be on my next album (details will be announced soon). As always, I'm sharing the lyrics here in line with the philosophy (and safe in the knowledge) that my song lyrics can stand alone as poetry. I hope you get to hear it in its full song form someday soon, be it in a live music setting or on the recorded album. In the meantime, please let me know what you think of the lyrics below, and keep an eye out for future announcements and updates. And with all that said, I give you, A Better Day.
The sun isn't shining, the skies are grey It’s so humid and rainy for May But through the clouds and through the rain I hold out hope for a better day There's no blue skies here And no white sand near But through the fog, and in the mud I stand assured of a better day Cause today the rain may fall But someday the sun will shine The storm will come and go in time All we're left with is today So let's make it our way You and I, rain or shine, always On second thought, close your eyes And imagine you’re lying beneath blue skies Do you feel the sand between your toes The smell of the sea on your nose Let the peace fill your soul Cause the rain will always fall But someday the sun will shine And the storms will pass in time All we're left with is today And we’ll make it okay You and I, rain or shine, always
P.S.: My debut non-fiction book, Art Is The Way, and my middle-grade novella, A Hollade Christmas, are out everywhere now. You can get them in all good bookstores and from all major online vendors.
