New Beginnings

Something I’ve always wanted to do was to share insights into my creative process and spark conversations with friends, creatives, fans, and anyone who’s interested. To this end, I had the spark to start a newsletter a while back. This spark came courtesy of Austin Kleon, one of my favourite creatives, and I can’t recommend his newsletter and books enough.

It’s taken a while, but I’ve finally gotten around to creating it, and it would mean a great deal to me if you could subscribe.

If you’re wondering why I’m doing this, here are a few reasons…

  1. It offers more control over how I connect with audiences. Creatives have been held at gunpoint by the tech companies and their algorithms for far too long. We struggle to grow our audiences on their platforms, and even when we do, we’re still at their mercy as they restrict our organic reach, and entice us to pay to boost posts. It is, after all, the prevalent business model.
  2. It allows me to limit my time spent on social media. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’ve been making an active effort to limit how much time I spend on social media. This is largely in the interest of my mental health; it’s just what’s best for me at this time. It also helps my creativity, because time not spent on social media is time I can spend practising my craft. The downside, of course, is that it makes it more difficult to engage with other creatives and reach potential fans. This is the dilemma that creatives face in the social media age.
  3. It ties into the current direction of my creative career. I recently announced that I’ve signed a publishing contract and that I will have a book hitting the bookstores in the near future. I still can’t share specifics – all will be revealed soon, I promise – but I can say that things are moving on nicely. I’m counting the days until I can spill the beans.

With all these in mind, I make you the promise that if you choose to sign up for the newsletter, I won’t spam you. You will get periodic updates and write-ups from me. I’m leaning towards weekly or fortnightly updates, but there’s wiggle room for you, the audience, to drive the frequency.  The point is, that you have control. You can choose not to receive the updates. You can opt out (unsubscribe) at any time.

So, are you ready to take the plunge? If you’d like to sign up to my newsletter, you can do so below 🙂
